Guest mode
Guest mode lets you browse, record visits and export without an email. Guest records are stored on our server and accessed through an essential cookie in this browser for 30 days after creation. Access ends at expiry and records are removed during subsequent cleanup. Clearing cookies or changing browsers or devices may remove access. You can delete the guest journal in Guest options or choose to import it privately into your account after signing in. Photo uploads and social features require an account.
Data we handle
We handle sign-in identifiers, verified email, your chosen profile, visit dates, notes, images, social connections, companion confirmations, visibility settings and reports. Visit dates are entered by you. The app does not request live device location. Identity and hosting providers may process connection, security and diagnostic data under their own policies.
Purpose and storage
We use these data to provide your journal, synchronize visits, authenticate you, carry out your sharing choices, and handle safety, reports and deletion. App records use the hosting database and object storage; language and appearance preferences use your browser. Supabase handles email authentication when enabled. This version does not sell personal data or use advertising trackers. Processing may occur in the United States or other hosting locations.
Visibility
New visits created while signed in start friends-only. Existing private visits and visits imported from guest mode stay private. Notes and photos are not shared by default. Posters are shared only when their owner exports them; they do not appear automatically on profiles viewed by others. Public visits are visible to other signed-in visitors with site access; friends-only visits require a confirmed friendship or mutual follows. Mutual follows automatically become friends; unfollowing ends this automatic relationship. Removing a friend also unfollows them. Explicitly confirmed friendships remain until removed. Notes and images have separate sharing choices. A created profile's nickname, handle, avatar and follow relationships can be discovered by signed-in visitors, but your sign-in email is not shown. New invitations explain sharing before sending and confirming. Each person authorizes use of their own avatar and nickname on shared pages and exports for that trip. Older confirmations without sharing permission require that person to confirm sharing. Removing a tag affects future reads and exports, not copies already downloaded.
Shared trip journals
Trips are separate from personal park journals. The creator can invite mutual followers directly or share an invitation link. Anyone with a valid link can preview the trip title, creator nickname, dates and member count; viewing the full journal requires signing in and explicitly joining. Members can see your nickname and chosen character. The creator can mark who took part each day; this does not change access to the trip. A photo explicitly saved as the trip cover is shown only to joined members, not in public invitation previews. Places, photos and text you save to a trip are shared with current members and may be exported by them. Other photos in your personal album are not shared automatically. You can edit or delete your own contributions; the creator can manage members and remove content. Leaving or being removed deletes your shared trip contributions while keeping originals in your personal album. Downloaded copies cannot be recalled. Places are selected or entered by you; we do not continuously track device location.
Place search
Only when you submit a search is the place query sent through Parkverie's server to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. Your account, email, trip members and live device location are not sent with it. Search only cities and public places, not home addresses or other private information. Results are cached for 30 days to reduce repeat requests; the cache does not include account identifiers. Curated places and trails come from the linked NPS pages. Selecting a curated place does not trigger external search. These suggestions are not navigation routes or live availability information.
Trip maps
When you open a location map or create a trip-map image, your browser requests basemap tiles from OpenFreeMap. The provider receives connection information such as your IP address and the requested map area, handled under its privacy policy. Trip titles, companion details, notes and photos are not sent with map requests; they are composed into the image on your device. Dashed lines show stop order, not driving or hiking directions.
Park ratings
Ratings have their own sharing settings, with one current score per person per park. Only me keeps a score private. My followers shows your nickname, avatar and score to people who follow you. Everyone makes them visible to all visitors and includes your score in the park average. Journal dates, notes, photos and companions keep their separate permissions. Older scores shared only for anonymous statistics do not acquire an identity automatically; named sharing starts only after you choose an audience and save again. You can change, privatize or remove a rating. Removing the last visit to a park also withdraws its score.
Photos
The server removes unnecessary metadata such as GPS and author fields from uploaded and served images, retaining essential rendering information. Visible pixels and downloaded copies may still reveal people or places. Review image content before uploading.
Retention and deletion
Records are kept until you remove them or delete your account. Account deletion immediately disables access and removes profile and business records from the active database. Failed object or identity-provider deletion remains queued for operator retry. Minimal disabled-identity markers prevent old sessions from restoring an erased account. Closed reports are cleared at the next maintenance run after 180 days; an account's submitted report text and contact are cleared on deletion. Provider backups and security logs follow provider retention mechanisms and may not disappear immediately.
Your choices
You can edit, export or delete records, change audiences, withdraw tags, block or report users, and delete your account in Profile. Contact support for access, correction, a complete copy or other privacy requests. Applicable statutory rights remain unaffected. Parkverie is for users aged 13 and older and is not intended for children under 13. If you believe we have collected personal information from a child under 13, contact support so we can investigate and delete it.
